How can injuries be prevented?
When tennis courts are made of hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete, they create more stress on the body. Every stroke performed on a hard court carries a risk of developing stress fractures. On the other hand, clay or grass courts are softer and exert less stress on the bones. However, soft courts with increased sliding movements can lead to injuries such as strains or sprains, especially in the knee and ankle ligaments. A study conducted on elite tennis players undergoing treatment found that the frequency of injuries was approximately 2.5-3 times higher on hard or clay courts compared to grass courts.
In training programs, incorporating flexibility training focused on improving flexibility can be effective in preventing these types of strains and injuries.
